Cook/DSP

Position Hours: day shift

Full-time; Day shift

$11.40-$11.90 hr.

This position is cooking in a residential home for individuals with disabilities.

Job Functions:

  • Ensure that all health, safety, and sanitation procedures are followed while preparing meals, including following prescribed diets.  Check and document refrigerator and freezer temperatures.  Train co-workers on skills to assist Residents in meal preparation in Cookís absence.
  • Monitor and supervise family style meal service.  Ensure adherence to the daily activity schedules.
  • Provide active treatment services as outlined in each Residentís plan (IHP/ISP/ITP) primarily dealing with meal preparation, and as assigned by the Residential Site Manager (RSM).  Daily document services provided, progress, behaviors and incidents in the Resident files.  Communicate Resident concerns, needs and safety issues to the RSM and/or the dietician.  Participate in IHP/ISP/ITP staffing and IDT meetings as requested by the RSM.
  • Prepare food/kitchen supplies shopping list; order food/kitchen supplies; and purchase food/kitchen supplies.
  • Train, supervise and assist Residents on completing Activity of Daily Living (ADL) skills.  Assist Residents by completing cooking, cleaning, laundry, and administering proper dose and timing of medications to Residents. Assist Residents with bathing, hygiene and toileting when a Resident is not capable of completing independently.  Perform tasks necessary to maintain a safe living and working environment (i.e. leaning, shoveling walks, etc.)

Job Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.  Employment experience in cooking and experience with people with developmental disabilities (DD) is helpful, but not required.
  • Must pass state required TABE literacy assessment prior to employment.  
  • Must have or obtain an Illinois Food Service and Sanitation certificate within the first 6 months and renew it as required.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must pass driving history check and Company policy criteria, maintain valid driverís license and be 21 or older to drive Company van.
